Career Pathways (Entry Level 3) at Central College Nottingham

Course description

This course is aimed at you if you would like a full time college course but maybe unsure of your career path or vocational preference. The course provides time for you to try different vocational / trade areas and develops your employability skills. The Trade Tasters course is suitable if you would like to develop your personal and social development, confidence, self-esteem and Functional Skills.

Course content

Subjects / Modules include:

  • Tasters in different vocational trades
  • Personal and social development
  • Employability / career preparation
  • Working in a team / problem solving
  • Functional skills in English and Maths

English and Maths are an essential part of your studies and will help you succeed on your course. These subjects will help you develop confidence and are the key employability skills that all employers now look for when recruiting.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, however you will need to complete an English and Maths assessment to determine the right course and support for you.


There will be continuous assessment of each unit. You will present evidence of competence via practical assessments and production of a personal portfolio of evidence.

Future opportunities

You are expected to progress onto one of the following:

  • Entry 3 / Level 1 course in a specialised trade
  • Employment

Further information

As the year progresses you will participate in work projects and will be taken out of college to go on trips. Costs for residentials and trips can be paid for during the course of the year.

    • The centre houses the recently completed Salon Central, a commercial salon with 40 hairdressing stations & 32 beauty treatment beds and the College's new 1000mConstruction Centre. It also provides courses in Business and IT, ESOL, Foundation for Apprenticeships and Work, Horizons (LLDD), Health & Social Care and Science. The Centre is also the base for the College's large International provision.
