History at Harwich and Dovercourt High School

Course description

The History A level is designed to cover the most interesting moments across a broad swathe of history. From the jungles of Vietnam to the steps of the Kremlin; from Florence Nightingale to Martin Luther King, A level History at Harwich and Dovercourt Sixth Form College is exciting and thought-provoking.

In addition to this, the course provides a range of useful transferable skills, such as the ability to analyse different sources of information, to consider the differing importance of factors, and to present and summarise information effectively. The modules that students learn about are:

AS Level—the Korean and Vietnam Wars, the Russian Revolution, and the Development of Warfare.

A2 Level—Civil Rights in the USA and the Cold War.

Entry requirements

Students must have grade B or above in GCSE History if taken. If History has not been taken at GCSE, students require a B and a C in English and another Humanities subject.
