NCFE Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workplace at Be Totally You

Course description

This qualification aims to assess the development of skills and knowledge relating to the children and young people’s workforce and will provide progression to the Early Learning and Childcare, Social Care and Learning Development and Support Services workforces.

The objective of this qualification is to confirm competence under supervision in these areas where appropriate and serves as a progression pathway to the required qualification at Level 3 and above (for all new practitioners) for registration and regulatory requirements in the sector.

Course content

To be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce, learners are required to successfully achieve a minimum of 35 credits:

  • 29 credits from the 11 mandatory units
  • a minimum of 6 credits from 16 the optional units.

This qualification consists consist of 11 mandatory units:

  • Unit 01 – Child and young person development (2 credits)
  • Unit 02 – Contribute to the support of child and young person development (3 credits)
  • Unit 03 – Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people (3 credits)
  • Unit 04 – Contribute to children and young people’s health and safety (3 credits)
  • Unit 05 – Contribute to the support of positive environments for children and young people (3 credits)
  • Unit 06 – Understand partnership working in services for children and young people (2 credits)
  • Unit 07 – Support children and young people’s positive behavior (2 credits)
  • Unit 08 – Introduction to communication in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings (3 credits)
  • Unit 09 – Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings (3 credits)
  • Unit 10 – Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings (2 credits)
  • Unit 11 – Maintain and support relationships with children and young people (3 credits)

and 16 optional units:

  • Unit 12 – Contribute to the support of children’s communication, language and literacy (2 credits)
  • Unit 13 – Contribute to the support of children’s creative development (2 credits)
  • Unit 14 – Understand child and young person development (4 credits)
  • Unit 15 – Promote child and young person development (3 credits)
  • Unit 16 – Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people (3 credits)
  • Unit 17 – Support children and young people’s health and safety (2 credits)
  • Unit 18 – Develop positive relationship with children, young people and others involved in their care (1 credit)
  • Unit 19 – Working together for the benefit of children and young people (2 credits)
  • Unit 20 – Understand how to support positive outcomes for children and young people (3 credits)
  • Unit 21 – Understand the needs of children and young people who are vulnerable and experiencing poverty and disadvantage (5 credits)
  • Unit 22 – Support the creativity of children and young people (3 credits)
  • Unit 23 – Understand the speech, language and communication needs of children and young people with behavioural, social and emotional difficulties (3 credits)
  • Unit 24 – Support children and young people with disabilities and special educational needs (4 credits)
  • Unit 25 – Support children and young people’s play and leisure (3 credits)
  • Unit 26 – Support children and young people at meal or snack times (3 credits)
  • Unit 27 – Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings (1 credit)

To achieve the NCFE Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce, learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the units as detailed in this qualification specification. Grades are not awarded.

Entry requirements

There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 1 qualification in a related area.

Entry is at the discretion of the centre. However, learners should be aged 16 or above to undertake this qualification.
