Sport and Active Leisure BTEC Level 1 Diploma at Epping Forest College
This course is a fantastic starting point for students who are passionate about sport. Sport and leisure is an exciting and fast growing industry with a wide range of activities, facilities and job opportunities. Sport and leisure involves all the activities that you choose to do in your free time, whether it is playing sport, watching matches on the television, eating out or visiting a theme park.
Over the year you will be studying eight vocational units:
- Taking part in sport
- Improving own fitness
- Safe learning in the workplace
- Risks and hazards in sport and active leisure
- Taking part in exercise and fitness
- How the body works
- Planning own fitness programme
- Leading a sports and active leisure activity
- Working in sport and active leisure
- Job opportunities in sport and active leisure
- Preparing for work placement
- Learning from a work placement
You will be working individually and as part of a group. Lectures are normally classroom based. A day visit to an outdoor activity centre and a work placement are features of this programme.
You will also develop your English and Maths skills as part of the course
4 GCSEs grades E–G or above including English Language or equivalent. Screening for literacy and numeracy to achieve a minimum of Entry 3.
The vocational units will be assessed through booklets which will be completed during the year. Assessment is 100% coursework.
Coursework tasks are varied. You will learn how to plan and take part in team activities such as sports competitions, investigate leisure provision in the local area, practise delivering customer service and find out about jobs in sport and leisure.
Materials will be discussed at the interview.
Many of our students progress on to the BTEC First Diploma in Sport, provided they have gained a pass in all the units at level 1 and have demonstrated that they have the appropriate English and Maths skills to progress along with a positive tutor reference. Other students go straight into training or take up employment in the leisure and sport industry at a junior level in sports clubs and leisure centres.
