Psychology A Level at Cowes Enterprise College

Course description

Psychology is the scientific study of the brain and behaviour. Human behaviour is complicated, psychology has used a number of different approaches in trying to explain behaviour. The A Level study provides an overview of some of these approaches.

Course content

In Year 1: We will be studying the topics social influence, memory, attachment, psychopathology, biopsychology and various approaches in psychology.

In Year 2: The psychodynamic and humanistic approaches are added as well as the study of topical issues such as gender, relationships, aggression and stress.

Entry requirements

  • An inquiring mind, ability to analyse, hardworking and conscientious.
  • Normally a strong GCSE grade in Science, Maths and English.


There are three exam papers at the end of Year 2. These papers each have their own specific topics and include a variety of question types including multiple choice, application questions and essay-style questions.
