Dance at The Elizabethan Academy

Course description

Course Content For students who wish to acquire experience of performance and choreography. An opportunity to engage in critical thinking about different dance genres as well as gain an insight into aspects of biology/physiology which relate to dance. 2 Units at 'AS' level, including:

Unit 1 - Understanding Dance: You will gain understanding of the demands on the dancer during practice and performance to include the anatomy and physiology of the body. You will know and understand the components of fitness, and the technical and interpretive skills required for a performance.

Unit 2 - Understand the choreographic approaches to creating a successful dance piece. 2 Units at 'A2' level, including:

Unit 3 - Dance Appreciation: You will study one dance genre. You will also study one set dance work, chosen by the examining board and sit an exam on the above.

Unit 4 - Group Choreography and Solo Performance: You will choreograph a group dance and a solo piece that will be performed for the examiner.

Entry requirements

You will need at least 5 GCSEs at A* - C (including GCSE Mathematics and/or GCSE English Language). 'AS': A* - C in GCSE Dance, A* - C in GCSE English or Distinction from a BTEC Dance / Performing Arts Qualification 'A2': A* - C AS Dance
