Maths AS/A2 Level at Kings Priory School
The A Level Mathematics course is split in to six modules: Core1, Core 2 and Statistics 1 which are studied in year 12, and Core 3, Core 4 and Mechanics 1 which are studied in year 13. To achieve an A* students must score over 80% in all modules, and an average over 90% for Core 3 and 4.
During the course students should develop problem solving and reasoning skills, and learn how to apply their knowledge in real-world situations. They will be taught in a diverse number of ways including group and paired work, independent study, activities and investigations.
One paper lasting 1 hour 30 minutes is taken for each module with grades being awarded from A* to E. Core 1 is a non-calculator exam.
A Level Mathematics will prepare students for university courses with mathematical content, as well as a variety of career paths.
Those considering Mathematics degrees, and degrees at Oxford or Cambridge Universities will receive additional guidance and support with their applications, and tuition is available for those sitting STEP exams.
