Geography A-Level at St Mark's West Essex Catholic School

Course description

Do you have an enquiring mind? Are you concerned about the future of our planet? If so, you will certainly enjoy studying Geography. You will explore issues and problems of relevance to the contemporary world that occur because of the relationships between people and their environment. Geography is a constantly changing subject with evolving data, interpretations and policies so you will be encouraged to keep up to date through the media and journals. In class you will work through discussions, group-work and practical research as well as individual study. You will study a range of activities related to the forces influencing our natural environment and how these affect the people and the economy. You will investigate world issues such as the effects of natural hazards and the plight of refugees. You will also develop the skills to plan a fieldwork investigation.

Geography A-Level is an ideal subject for gaining admission to university for a range of degrees and careers including town planning, finance and banking, engineering, geological investigation, teaching and retail management to name a few.
