Business Specialist Qualification at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form
This is a practically based, work related course which is equivalent to one A Level. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations. The course focuses upon key skills in Business which include: Human Resources, Accounting, Marketing, Communication, Logistics, Administration and Management.
Why study a Specialist Qualification in Business?
To focus on a particular subject area and develop specialist skills and knowledge. The course prepares you for working in any organisation and can lead onto an Apprenticeship or count towards your UCAS points for Further Education.
Unit 1 – The Business Environment (Mandatory)
An introduction to the range of business activities with an exploration of the dynamic nature of organisations and the factors that influence them.
Unit 2 – Business Resources (Mandatory)
This unit creates a deeper understanding of the range of Human, Physical, Technological and Financial resources used by organisations
Unit 3 – Introduction to Marketing (Mandatory)
This unit allows learners to understand how marketing, research, planning and the marketing mix are used by organisations.
Unit 4 – Business Communication (Mandatory)
This unit explores how the collection, management and communication of information are vital for organisational success.
Unit 12 – Internet Marketing (Specialist)
This unit explores the benefits and challenges for businesses and customers when using internet marketing.
Unit 19 – Developing Teams in Business (Specialist)
This unit is part of the Management Specialist pathway and will involve a practical team based activity.
Students will need at least four GCSEs at Grades A*-C.
What opportunities are there for me to study beyond the classroom?
The opportunity to apply a range of business concepts to run your own business in Year 12 through the Young Enterprise Enrichment. Each unit allows the opportunity for visits, speakers, research and using your own part-time working experiences.
What kind of career does this subject/qualification prepare me for?
Business is an ideal qualification for all employment sectors as it gives a broad overview of the running of a business. Other options include Apprenticeships, employment or Further Education in a range of areas such as Marketing, Human Resources, Insurance and Retail.
