This is a demanding, yet interesting and enjoyable course, providing both a worthwhile educational experience and a good foundation for Higher Education studies. In terms of general education and lifelong learning, Law has to be one of the most varied and diverse subjects available, attracting learners with all types of background. You should be prepared to read serious newspapers and watch TV programmes relevant to the course, and devote considerable time for extensive reading.

For AS the modules are Law Making and the Legal System, and Concepts of Liability. The A2 modules consist of specialised areas of substantive law which enable you to build on the knowledge gained during your AS year.

Course content

* At AS Level, you'll develop a knowledge and understanding of the legal system and an ability to evaluate its operation and performance. Units in year one include Law Making and the Legal System; and Introduction to Criminal Liability and either Introduction to Tort or Introduction to Contract

* At A Level, you'll study either Criminal Law or Contract, then either further Criminal Law or Tort, plus Concepts of Law.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at Grades A*- C (or equivalent) including GCSE English at Grade B.


All units are assessed by formal written exams. The course is assessed by external examinations and consists of four modules.

Future opportunities

Employment, Higher Education or further study for a Professional Qualification.
