Music Practitioner - Performance and Technology Level 2 at Blackburn College

Course description

This Level 2 Music Performance course is designed to give learners an insight into the music business through the development of performance skills and investigation of the music industry as a whole. In addition to this, learners will have the opportunity to take part in public performances, explore promotion and marketing activities related to music production, learn how to record and mix music, be involved in recording sessions and take part in music video shoots.

Course content

The course consists of compulsory and specialist units designed to develop a range of music performance skills, music theory and writing skills and a range of vital personal attributes. Units include:-

  • Working in the Music Industry
  • Professional Development in the Music Industry
  • Planning & Creating A Musical Product
  • Solo Musical Performance
  • Exploring Musical Composition
  • Working as a Musical Ensemble
  • Developing as a Musical Performer
  • Rehearsal Techniques for Musicians

Learners will also complete an additional qualification to complement your programme.

Entry requirements

A standard of literacy and numeracy appropriate to Level 2 and four GCSEs with at least two at Grade D along with a suitable level of competency in playing one or more musical instruments.

Assessment

The emphasis of assessments on the course is developing you as a music specialist with a range of skills and approaches to music recording, live performance support, and broader technical and organisational skills that are needed in the real world. There are no formal examinations.

Future opportunities

You can progress on to a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Performance or Technology where you can develop your musical, creativity and interpersonal skills further, leading to higher study or a career in the expanding creative industries. It is also possible to progress to one of our other Level 2 or 3 courses within Creative Arts.
