Media Studies - GCSE at Hurstmere School
MEDIA AQA Course Content: It is recognised that the mass media play an increasingly important role in our society, providing us with information and entertainment, and communicating social values. This GCSE course is designed to develop a critical understanding of the role of the mass media. Students will develop a broad knowledge of the nature of media production and an ability to analyse and interpret its products. The course offers chances for group work, presentations and discussions, boosting pupil’s confidence and knowledge of the subject. Assessment structure Pupils will cover a variety of media under four units. Two units are externally assessed: Investigating the Media (20%) and Exploring Media Industries (20%). Two units are taken under controlled conditions and are assessed internally: Understanding the Media (30%) and Responding to a Media Brief (30%). All pieces will require good levels of English and quality design and production work. Controlled Test 60%, Coursework 40%
