Music Level 3 at Itchen College

Course description

This is a course for students who are looking for a practical approach to their music studies.

Course content

You will study three practical units centred around performing music. The units are subject to change, but will focus on solo and ensemble performance and putting on live gigs.

The course is based firmly on popular music although you will also learn about performing in other styles. During the course you will perform on a number of different occasions ranging from gigs in the student centre to showcases at external venues, as well as events that you plan and organise yourself. If you study this course you will receive free instrumental lessons on your main instrument.

You need a real love of music and a willingness to push yourself as a musician. If you decide to take this course you may well also want to consider taking Music Technology to allow you to learn more about this aspect of music.

Entry requirements

Grades 9-4 in English and three GCSEs at grades 9-4 and A*-C. Merit or above in a related vocational Level 2 qualification will also be accepted.

Proven practical ability to at least grade 4 at an instrument (or voice) is essential.

Further information

Students will take part in showcases throughout the year and go on visits to theatres and music studios and perform live gigs in the local community.
