Games Technology – BTEC Level 3 at Nova Centric Limited

Course description

If your passion is for games and you want to make them, not just play them – then this course is for you.  The exciting world of computer games design becomes a reality as you work with games professionals on industry-standard equipment in Confetti’s state-of-the-art gaming suites. You’ll learn the fundamental skills of 3D modelling and game engine integration alongside programming and script development. This will all lead to the creation of your very own computer game elements.

Course content

Term 1 - Game Engines and Design

During this term you’ll learn the fundamental skills required in the games industry, such as principles of 3D-modelling and game engine uses and integration, while also being able to explore graphic packages and toolsets during the creation of assets. You’ll supplement these units through understanding of the industry and valuable research skills.

Term 2 - Games Design

Building on your previous experience of 3D Modelling and Engine workflow, you’ll develop a game sequence and create the treatment document to support this. You will expand your theoretical understanding of Games Design throughout.

Term 3 - Implemention

Your first prototype is almost ready for production. You will be producing 3D models that will be implemented into your games environment as your prototype takes shape. You’ll also be preparing a narrative that supports your game idea and creating that final polish for your design.

Term 4 - Pitching and Project Management

You’ll pitch your game idea for your planned game production while also beginning your exploration into sound design and implementation. You’ll continue to work through your 3D workflow practices while showing your critical thinking towards games. You will also be introduced to, and learn more about, our higher education courses at Confetti.

Term 5 - Games Production

You’ll develop your understanding of platforms and associated technologies ready for the distribution of your project. You’ll also create your own intricate UI guidance and animated elements ready for integration into the Final Project. During your schedule you’ll make sure it is bug-free using test suite principles and practices.

Term 6 - Showcase

You’ll finalise your 3D animations and fine tune your sequences to bring together your final showpiece of work, your sequenced and prepared game.
