Dance A Level at Oldershaw Academy

Course description

A Level Dance provides opportunities to acquire experience of performance in a range of different dance styles and to develop choreographic skills as well as a critical appreciation of professional dance works.

Course content

The AS/A2 Level course balances practical work and theoretical study and students will be involved in the following activities: choreographing a solo and a group dance taking inspiration from practitioners such as Martha Graham and Christopher Bruce; a performance in duo or a trio in a specific dance genre and the study of contemporary dance history and the career development of some prominent dance practitioners. Candidates should be willing to devote some of their own time to rehearsals and evening theatre visits to see live dance performances. All candidates must have some basic dance ability and be confident and comfortable with performance work,

Entry requirements

A GCSE in Dance is beneficial but not essential. Candidates must have some dance experience, basic dance skills, willingness to explore lots of different dance styles and the confidence to perform in front of others.

Future opportunities

Dance A-Level is regarded as a valued academic qualification in most universities and provides an excellent springboard for a degree course in Dance or Performing Arts or a career in the field of Performing Arts.
