Who is this qualification for?

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed nail technician. This qualification is based on the nail services National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's leading professional bodies (The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT)) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a junior nail technician. 

Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 1 qualification in beauty therapy and/or a successful skills test and interview.

What does this qualification cover?

This qualification has been specifically designed for the 16-19 age group, and will develop the knowledge and skills to prepare learners for employment as a junior nail technician. Learners will have their nail services skills assessed in a real working environment. 
 

Learners may have to undertake maths and english as part of their apprenticeship framework.  Apprentices need to be employed.

Course content

This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a nail technician including: the application and maintainance of nail enhancements to create a natural finish, nail art services, providing manicure and pedicure treatments, fulfilling salon reception duties, promoting additional products and services to clients and effectiveness at work. All units in this qualification are mandatory.
 

Entry requirements

It is recommended that learners have achieved a level of education equivalent to four GCSE’s at grades A*-C prior to commencing the programme, however, learners should discuss their own circumstances with the College as entry is based on qualifications, skills and experience as well as a keen interest in a career in the Beauty Therapy industry.

Assessment

  • Assessment is through portfolio building and continual assessment of practical skills, written work and assignments.
  • Learner progress is monitored through regular tutorials and reviews.
  • Support is provided by our expert team throughout the course

What could this qualification lead to?



Career opportunities exist in a variety of contexts as a junior nail technician, including:

- Commerical nail salon
- Retail concession 'nail bar'
- Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings

Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a junior nail technician, learners may choose to develop their skills further by undertaking Technical Level qualifications at Level 3, these include: 

- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services (QCF)
- Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology (QCF)
