Business Studies (AS/A Level) at New College Swindon

Course description

In this subject you learn the theories and techniques that are used to make decisions in business organisations.

Making correct decisions is crucial, and knowledge of the techniques you learn in this subject is of great benefit to management decision-making.

Entry requirements

You should have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s including GCSE grade C in English Language and Maths (or equivalent).

There is a possibility of completing this course in a year (Fast-Track).  To do this, you must have higher qualifications – please see InfoSheet NC152 for details.


 This A level follows a linear format resulting in 3 exams at the end of 2 years.  Assessments are 2 hours in length.  You will have the opportunity to take AS exams in year 1, but this is a stand alone qualification.

Future opportunities

A Level Business Studies is a very valuable qualification for any student aiming to continue studying at a higher level, or for those thinking of a career in accounting, banking, finance, personnel, retail management or general administration.

It combines well with most other subjects such as Maths, Languages, Accounting and IT.
