Pre-Nursing Level 3 Diploma at Cirencester College

Course description

For those aiming for a career in nursing or other health related fields,  this course will prepare you for your chosen health care profession, providing the underpinning knowledge, skills and qualities required to succeed.
You will learn about the various branches within the nursing profession, looking at entry qualifications, progression routes and the skills and qualities essential for an effective nurse. A portfolio is completed during the first term, focusing on interpersonal skills and effective communication in appropriate settings.
In the Spring term you will gain practical experience in a health or community setting, applying classroom theory to practice, followed by a portfolio of evidence completed in the final term, reflecting on the experiences and skills you have developed during the course.

What you will learn over the course:

  • Nursing qualifications/skills and qualities
  • How to utilise interpersonal skills in a health care career
  • Effective communication skills
  • Experience gained in a health care setting of your choice, where you will apply the knowledge that you have gained in class.

There will also be presentations by professionals from various health care fields throughout the course.

Entry requirements

The  DBS check (criminal records check ) will be completed in college during  the first week of the programme. This means that all students must bring in  a variety of current original identification that has the home address and their name, or their legal name and birth date e.g. birth certificate, passport, national insurance letter, recent  bill or recent wage slip.

Future opportunities

As this course is a form of enrichment (1.5 hours a week), it does not qualify students to apply to university or practice in the sector without a recognised national body qualification studied alongside it e.g. A levels or a BTEC Diploma. However, it is regarded highly by both universities and employers as a course which demonstrates your dedication to a health care career
