Accounting - A Level (AQA) at Chichester College

Course description

This course introduces candidates to various accounting concepts and principles, and demonstrates their application to a range of accounting situations. The full advanced GCE course provides an excellent foundation for further study of accountancy at pre-professional and professional levels.

Course content

The AS year aims to teach the fundamentals of accounting. It is based on understanding the double entry system and learning how to prepare financial reports for sole-traders and limited companies. You will also look at the concepts guiding the preparation of these reports. In your second year, you will go on to look at the financial reports in greater detail as well as looking at what happens within an industrial setting, looking at how managers interpret financial statements to make costing and pricing decisions. 

Teaching methods include explanation of accounting techniques followed by practical examples and case studies. Students will also be encouraged to utilise the interactive learning resources available to confirm and facilitate learning. 

Entry requirements

5 GCSE's at grade A*- C including Mathematics and English Language.


Class exercises and the use of past examination questions during the term to prepare for the final exams in the summer.

Future opportunities

You can go on to study at university, studying a range of subjects from
Economics, Business Studies, Management or Accounting and
Finance. You can choose to go into the workplace and train to be a
chartered accountant after college
