Further Mathematics A Level at St Laurence School

Course description

During year 12 you will complete an AS in Mathematics and an AS in Further Mathematics,
consisting of 6 modules between them.
Three of these are CORE modules, which focus on the underlying principles of mathematics,
such as algebra and trigonometry, building on your knowledge from GCSE. The other three
modules are APPLIED mathematics, which enable you to apply mathematical concepts to
real life problems, such as analysing data, engineering, physics and business.
AS Mathematics
Core 1, Core 2 and Statistics 1
AS Further Mathematics
Further Pure 1, Decision 1 and Decision 2

Entry requirements

You will need to achieve at least a grade C or above in each of your modules in order to be permitted to study Further Maths in year 13. This requirement is essential to ensure that only students who will be able to pass the Further Maths A-Level commit to spending year 13 working towards the qualification, rather than continuing with a different A2 subject in which they will be more successful.
