Physical Education - A Level (AQA) at HARTPURY COLLEGE
If you’re keen on sport you can make a healthy living from your passion. Whether that’s working for a football club, as a personal trainer at the local gym, training to be a physiotherapist or sports scientist, or working for a national governing body, there are lots of opportunities.
The course includes study of applied exercise physiology, including nutrition and the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, joints, muscles and the mechanics of human movement. Contemporary issues look at elite performers and world games plus deviance and commercialisation in sport. Do you play at least one sport regularly and to a good level? Are you keen to learn about how good nutrition and sensible use of ergogenic aids can improve performance? Are you interested in how different training methods affect the body and so improve performance and health?
General A-level entry requirements: Five GCSEs at grade A*-C, which must include English Language, Mathematics and Science.

You need to be a logical thinker, to be open to new ways of thinking about sport, exercise and fitness. You should be willing to read from a wide range of sources, including serious newspapers to keep abreast of sporting news and developments. Physical Education can be combined with most other A Level subjects, depending upon your career aspirations. Students wishing to enter Sports Science should combine Physical Education with at least one science. Those wishing to be teachers often choose Geography or Environmental Studies. For a sporting or leisure industry career Psychology or Business Studies work well. Physical Education can be combined with almost every other subject.
