Religious Studies at Lodge Park Academy

Course description

Units Studied ‐ Year 12/13

Students will study two units each year. One will focus on a study of ethics and the other will be a study of Islam.

Students will complete two units at AS and two units at A2.

In this unit, students will look at a range of exciting and topical issues including abortion, euthanasia and war. Students will also look at a range of theories as to how exactly people make ethical decisions and then apply them to the topical issues. They will develop skills of evaluation, analysis and synthesis in this unit.

In this unit, students will look at the history of Islam, its beliefs and its place in the modern world. With Islam regularly appearing in the media, it is playing an increasingly important part in today’s world and this course will allow students to appreciate and analyse that place. There are also some important textual studies in this unit which will help students to develop many of the skills that people interested in any form of literature will need.
