Course description

To define the expectations of a Paediatric First Aider and to supply the necessary information to respond appropriately in an emergency situation.

Who Should Apply:

Relevent to all people working with children either in child care setting as childminders or foster parents.

Future opportunities

This course will define the expectations of a Paediatric First Aider and to supply the necessary information to respond appropriately in an emergency situation and understand the differences between an infant,child and adult first aid.

Unit 1 includes:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
  • Be able to assess an emergency situation safely.
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child who has a foreign body airway obstruction
  • Be able to provide first aid in case of external bleeding
  • Understand how to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock
  • Understand how to provide first aid to an infant or child with anaphylaxis.

Unit 2 includes e.g.:

  • Understand how to administer first aid to a child or infant with chronic medial condition, with burns, minor injuries and emergencies.
