Media Studies - GCSE at St James's C E High School
What does the course consist of? • learning how media products such as advertisements, movies, tv programmes and newspapers are made • studying and analysing the media you use every day • making your own magazines, newspapers, radio programmes or short films • using and developing your own talents, ideas and skills How will I be assessed? • Through coursework: 50% • Through one controlled assignment 50% with tiered level entry – 3 hour exam. Can anyone do this course? This course is best suited if you have good academic ability and creative flair, as there is a considerable amount of written work and analysis required. The full range of GCSE grades from A* to G is awarded.
If you have a particular interest in media you can go on to follow A Level or GNVQ (General National Vocational Qualification) courses in Media Studies, Communication Studies, Theatre Studies or Performing Arts.
