Geography A Level at The Boston Grammar School

Course description

This new A Level course ai ms to incorporate a multitude of human and physical Geography themes, with an engaging and contemporary issues - based approach. There are eight main topics at A Level that are assessed by examination. They include; Tectonic Processes and Hazards, The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity, The Carbon Cycle and Energy Security, Coastal Landscapes and Change, Globalisation, Superpowers, Regenerating Places and Diverse Places, and Health, Human Rights and Intervention. There is also a geographical investigation exam ination paper that explores themes from the compulsory content area. In addition, there is an independent investigation which pupils write up after a period of fieldwork

Entry requirements

Students should have a grade ‘B’ or higher at GCSE level in Geography and also meet the school’s minimum entry requirements as well.

Assessment

Paper 1 Written examination: 2 hours 30% of the qualification Paper 2 Written examination: 2 hours 30% of the qualification Paper 3 Written examination: 1 hour and 45 minutes 20% of the qualification Coursework - Independent Investigation: written report of 3000 – 4000 words 20% of the qualification
