Art and Design AS/A2 *Fees payable* at Sheffield High School

Course description

Our broad and varied course provides the opportunity to develop technical skills, inventiveness and critical awareness. Students are encouraged to see, think and make. Emphasis is placed on drawing as a means of recording and communicating ideas and students are encouraged to explore a variety of media areas: painting, textiles,printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, ICT and lens based media.

Course content

Special features of the course are:
optional drawing classes after school
curriculum gallery trips and optional study tours abroad
artist in residence/community projects
occasional opportunity for involvement in design for creative arts and theatre productions

Entry requirements

GCSE art at grade C or above (exceptions are sometimes made). 

Future opportunities

This combination of practical work and theory produces an A level which is respected by universities. Coursework will form the basis for a portfolio needed for entry to Art and Design related courses, for example:architecture, foundation course,history of art, fine artpainting andsculpture, photography, graphic design, industrial design, ceramics, jewellery, furniture design, fashion, fashion marketing, textile design.

Further information

Art appreciation and critical studies form an integral part of the course and lead to a personal study on a topic of the student’s own choice.
