AS/A2 Level History at Cardinal Griffin Catholic High School - a Science College
A qualification in A Level History is still considered one of the most challenging and scholaristic disciplines you can attain.
AS History is composed of two units.
Unit 1- Historic Themes in Breadth will be assessed by an examination based on extended essay analysis.
Unit 2 – British Historical Depth Studies will be examined on the basis of documentary critical analysis.
A2 History is also composed of two units.
Unit 3 - Historical Interpretations will have an exam made up of both essay and documentary components.
Unit 4 – Historical Enquiry will be assessed via an extended personal study which is internally assessed.

A2 – Unit III- Option D1 – The Challenge of Fascism
From Kaiser to Fuhrer Germany 1900-1945
Historical Themes in Breadth (1hr 20 min examination)
British Historical Depth (1hr 20 min examination)
Depth Studies in Controversies (2hr examination)
Historical Enquiry (Centre based course work essay)
Minimum requirement to study History AS/A2 is a grade B at GCSE.
Considered one of the facilitating subjects, students can progress to Higher Education and go on to pursue careers in Law, Accountancy, Lecturing and Teaching just to name a few of the options open to a successful candidate.
