Catering Entry Level up to Level 1 at Birmingham Metropolitan College (BMET)

Course description

This is a one year course aimed at those with learning difficulties. The programme offers a route towards employment and further education. The programmes aim is to develop your work skills both within a catering environment and generally. You will also be encouraged to take responsibility for yourself and interact appropriately with others in the workplace and socially. You will study key elements of Numeracy, Communication and Literacy and Personal & Social Development. Most of the training is ‘hands on’ and will also include basic computer skills.

Entry requirements

There are no formal qualifications needed only a desire to return to education and achieve a recognised qualification.

Assessment

You will build a folder of work that is assessed throughout the year, there are no formal written exams.

Future opportunities

By the end of the course you will have an understanding of the skills expected from you by an employer. You may be able to progress to the next level of the course, another Entry Level programme or other higher level programme in your chosen subject area, paid employment or voluntary work

    • The Centre of Sporting Excellence (CoSE) is based on the outskirts of Kidderminster at Brinton’s Field. This is our specialist facility for sports courses in Kidderminster and the Black Country.

      The facilities include six football pitches, two rugby pitches, a ‘trophy’ pitch, a golf driving range and a strength and conditioning gym spread over 40 acres of land.

      We also have use of partner community sports facilities including local golf, boxing and rugby clubs and the playing fields are also used by Kidderminster Harriers Football Academy.

      The Centre of Sporting Excellence offers a range of Sports Academies which are designed to bridge the gap between community sports and education.

      The unique partnerships mean that students study for sport related academic courses as well as developing their sporting skills with professional, qualified and experienced coaches across all academies with the opportunity to take part in local, regional and national competitions.
