Why study Fine Art?

If so you should consider taking Fine Art in the Sixth Form here at Colston's Girls' School. You will enjoy developing your understanding of the visual world, learning practical skills and responding to ideas and issues in ways that are personal to you.
Fine Art is about looking, learning, thinking and communicating ideas. It offers you the chance to use your creativity and to express yourself.
You will develop your understanding of the creative processes, your ability to think, to solve problems and to communicate in a visual way. It will enable you to work independently and to make your own discoveries by exploring ideas, other artists' work and different materials and techniques.
Fine Art gives you the skills and knowledge to create personal and imaginative work.

The emphasis of this course is learning by doing. In the first year you will produce a portfolio of coursework selected by you, whilst for the Externally Set Assignment you will create ideas in response to one of the five exciting starting points provided.
In the second year you will create an in-depth Personal Investigation and respond to a final Externally Set Assignment to create ideas in response to one of the eight exciting starting points provided.
During the course you will find out about a wide range of different approaches to photographic subject matter, media, techniques and processes, discovering where your interests and passion lies.
Enthusiasm, interest and creativity! GCSE Grade C or above examples of work.
AS Level: Coursework Portfolio (60%) and Externally Set Assignment (40%)
A Level: Personal Investigation with a 3000 word essay (60%) and Externally Set Assignment (40%)
