Introduction to Early Years Education and Care (QCF) Certificate Level 2 at York College

Course description

The units are structured around the following four themes:

    Theme 1: Introducing the role of the early years practitioner
    Theme 2: Legislation, framework and professional practice
    Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school
    Theme 4: Professional development

Students are required to complete a minimum of 250 hours of work placement and will be assessed in the workplace.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D or above including English Language and Maths (grade 4) (or equivalent).

Students should also have a minimum of 85 per cent attendance if they have taken a previous qualification and a good reference from their Progress Tutor.

Students are required to complete a successful Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check prior to starting the course, for which there will be a charge.

This qualification is suitable for anyone who wants to work, or has just started to work in the children and young people’s workforce.

Future opportunities

On completion of this course and achievement of appropriate grades in GCSE English and Maths students may be able to progress to a Level 3 qualification, or work in the childcare sector in a supervised position.
