Music A Level at Arnold Hill Academy

Course description

Why study this course?

· Component 1 - Performing: Candidates produce a recital of between 6-15 minutes, depending on the option selected. Standard level of performance is Grade 5 for AS and Grade 6 for A Level.

· Component 2 - Composing: Requires candidates to submit 2-3 pieces, depending on the option chosen, to both briefs set by the exam board and one set by the candidate.

· Component 3 - Appraising: A number of areas of study are available to choose from, including Study of the development of the Classical and Romantic Symphony, Rock and Pop, Jazz and Musical Theatre. Assessed through a final written exam.

Arnold Hill Academy Music Department provides a number of exciting extra-curricular opportunities for music students. We run a number of school and student led ensembles, supported with a core of dedicated peripatetic teaching staff. The department boasts a high quality music studio with a wide range of professional standard microphones and outboard equipment.

Entry requirements

In addition to the standard entry requirements for the Sixth Form, students should have studied GCSE Music at Key Stage 4, achieving a grade B or better. Other music qualifications may be accepted, such as instrumental grades or exceptional scores at BTEC.
