Plumbing Level 1 at Warrington & Vale Royal College

Course description

This qualification is designed for students wishign to enter the Plumbing industry. You will gain core skills and knowledge with the opportunity to progress onto our Level 2 & 3 Plumbing qualifications.

If you are a hands on person and enjoy working with resistance materials this course would be suitable for you.

Course content

The units covered include;

  • Health and Safety
  • Installation repair and maintenance of plumbing systems
  • Above ground drainage
  • Pipework (copper, plastic, low carbon steel)
  • Plumbing science.

You will also complete ten subjects which are covered in plumbing qualifications; structure of the construction industry, environmental awareness, site preparation in the construction industry and Health and Safety.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs (E or above) with a willingness to learn.

Applicants that do not meet these entry requirements will be assessed on an individual basis.

Assessment

Your progress will be continually assessed and you will be given detailed feedback to ensure that you are able to develop your skills effectively. Assessment includes practical activities with written assessments at the end of each unit.

Financial information

You will need to purchase appropriate footwear to wear during practical sessions. Rigger boots are not allowed.

You will also be expected to be equipped with suitable writing equipment including; pens, paper, folders and a calculator.

A CSCS Card will also be needed if you participate on a work placement at a cost of £30.

Future opportunities

You can progress to the Level 2 Diploma in plumbing studies, in which some of the course content will have been covered in your first year. This then leads to a Level 3 qualification if you wish to continue your studies. There may also be the opportunity of gaining employment, where you will achieve your Level 2 & 3 NVQ.

Will I complete work placements?

The college is committed to ensuring that all students benefit from the opportunity to undertake work placement whilst at college and we will support you in obtaining a placement in a relevant vocational setting. 

It is our intention to try to place students with local employers. The placements will usually last 2 weeks, and compliment your college programme. Warrington & Vale Royal College have developed strong links with national and local employers. Some work placements completed by previous students have led to employment / apprenticeship opportunities.

Are trips and residentials organised during the course?

Educational visits are a useful part of any programme. We look favourably on a variety of visits, all of which enhance the learning process.

Are there any links with industry?

The college is continually developing and reinforcing links with the industry to promote work placement opportunities. A variety of guest speakers from are invited in to speak to students during the course of the year.

    • By Rail: Anyone travelling by train should disembark at Central Station in Warrington. Our Winwick Road Campus is around a 20 minute walk along the A49 (you will pass the Warrington Wolves RLFC stadium and the Tesco supermarket on your left).

      By Bus: Warrington & Vale Royal College is easily accessible by bus from the town centre and nearby Cheshire districts. Bus numbers* 19, 20, 21, 22 from the Warrington Bus Station to Winwick Road Campus.
