Health & Social Care BTEC National Level 3 Extended Certificate at Heysham High School Sports College
The course consists of two units to be completed in Year 12 from which you can be awarded the Certificate qualification.
If you continue to study the course in Year 13, completing four units in total, you will be awarded the Extended Certificate.
A variety of methods of study and assessment are used, allowing for individual creativity as well as application of knowledge and understanding.
All students will be expected to actively participate in group work and role-plays as well as individual study.
Due to the nature of the written content of the course we ask for a minimum grade C in GCSE English. There is no requirement for students to have previously studied Health and Social Care.
One of the Year 12 units will lead to an external examination whilst the other is internally assessed through coursework.
Similarly in Year 13, the two units covered are assessed by an external examination and coursework.
Folders and other stationery are needed to ensure work is organised. All texts which are studied for the course are provided. Access to the internet at home or at school is essential.
This course offers a good preparation for further advancement and study in a variety of health care careers, social work and other service sector occupations such as early years and primary teaching, and police work. The content of the course provides a firm understanding of ethical and practical issues in the above sectors.
