Music Technology BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at South Cheshire College
Music technology students will work extensively with the College record label, the in-house local radio station and the media department to develop their skills for professional employment in the music and audio/visual industry. Tutors on the course offer their professional expertise to deliver a largely practical focus including: recording, sequencing, live sound technical work and sound manipulation, whilst providing essential grounding in theoretical elements. There are no formal examinations on this course but you will be expected to complete some formative testing and on-line assessment. Learners will be expected to complete a portfolio of work that demonstrates their skills as an audio engineer.
The Level 3 Extended Diploma will provide skills in:
- Audio recording
- Audio/MIDI sequencing
- Producing music in various styles
- Synthesis and sampling
- Sound for moving image
- Listening skills
- Live sound
- Event planning
- Audio theory
- Keyboard skills
- Functional industry knowledge
For the Extended Diploma (2 years) you will need a minimum of: i) 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English Language/Literature (or L2 functional literacy), ii) or a Level 2 Diploma in Music (Merit) plus 3 GCSEs grade A*-C, iii) or a Level 2 Extended Certificate in Music (Merit) plus 4 GCSEs grade A*-C, plus at least a grade D in GCSE Maths (or L1 functional numeracy pass).
On completion of a Level 3 Extended Diploma it is possible for the students to gain employment in the industry or progress onto Higher Education to study Degree and Foundation Degree subjects.
