Children and Young People's Workforce Advanced Apprenticeship at Truro and Penwith College

Course description

This qualification confirms competence in this area and serves as a required qualification for all new practitioners for registration and regulatory requirements in the early learning and childcare sector. The Apprentice should have prior experience of the sector.

Course content

This is an Nationally recognised qualification that provides a broad and thorough training programme for all Early Years and Childcare professionals and covers four themes:

  • Theme 1: Health and Wellbeing – Supporting healthy lifestyles through exercise and food and nutrition, promoting children’s emotional well-being and understanding how to support children who are unwell.
  • Theme 2: Legislation ,framework and professional practice – Understanding  Safeguarding, health and safety, equality and inclusion and Working in partnership
  • Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness – Understand the value of play, support children’s transition to school, develop children’s emergent literacy and mathematical skills and use longitudinal studies to observe, assess and plan for children’s needs
  • Theme 4:  Professional Development – Engage in professional development

Sessions are reviewed regularly and updated to meet the requirements of employers and learners in line with sector

Changes and the focus of legislation and good practice requirements.

Future opportunities

The Level 3 Early Years Educator Diploma has been designed to enable students to progress as a Nursery/ Pre-School practitioner.  This course will also suit existing staff to gain a qualification that will enhance their career prospects or enable their progression onto further study, which could include FdA Childhood Education (3 – 8 yrs), Level 4 and 5 or FdA Children and Young Peoples Workforce, level 4 and 5 (0 – 19 yrs)-BA Hons Education and Training, level 6 (top up) –Cornwall SCITT ( School Centred Initial Teacher Training)
