Russian A-Level at Wolverhampton Girls' High School

Course description

Would you like to master the intricacies of the Russian language? The A level course is designed to give you confidence in your language skills as we return to the basics of the grammar and enable you to widen your vocabulary with the help of cartoons, pop songs, and poetry. We also use a computer-based course which you can access at home via our Learning Platform. This is especially good for working on your listening comprehension skills. The course provides an excellent preparation for Russian at degree level and gives an insight into the lives of the Russian people.

Progression to Career/ University Courses:

Russian, Slavonic Studies, Linguistics, Translating, Interpreting, European Studies, Tourism, Journalism, Teaching, Social Work in Russia.

Key Points:

All aspects of grammar are examined; practise your spoken Russian with an assistant; learn about Russia’s past and present; study some aspects of Russian literature.

Entry requirements

Students (external and internal) wishing to join the Sixth Form at Wolverhampton Girls’ High School will usually be expected to have achieved a minimum of 6 GCSEs at grades A*- B, including Mathematics and English Language with a minimum average points score of 48 from her best 6 subjects.  Students should preferably have achieved A* or A in the subjects they wish to study at A Level, but with a minimum of grade B. Subjects which are not GCSEs but deemed to be equivalent to GCSEs are not accepted.  The Headteacher reserves the right to make the final decision on the application of this criteria.
