Sport & Physical Activity - Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate at Stanground Academy

Course description

Students who are interested in sport in general, but especially for those that would like to seek a career in the world of sport. Those that enjoy a mixture of practical sport, coaching and theoretical areas surrounding the world of sport. This is a vocational course and in support of this, we aim to provide a number of opportunities for you to see for yourselves a broad range of PE/Sport providers.

Course content

A mixture of units that cover the broad spectrum of sport. The various units will be delivered either as practical, theory, or seminar.

 

Units that will be covered in the duration of the course:

 

  1. Body systems and the effects of physical activity
  2. Sports coaching and activity leadership
  3. Sports organisation and development
  4. Organisation of sports event

       18. Practical skills in sport and pysical activities

Entry requirements

5 + A* to C grades at GCSE including C or above in PE and science and grade 5 or above in English.

Assessment

3 units will be internally assessed via the quality of the students’ coursework.  2 units are externally assessed via written examinations.

Future opportunities

If you’re choosing to seek employment then this course would be beneficial for sports coaches, fitness instructors, and sports events management. As mentioned above, this course is a very relevant stepping stone onto many sport-related university courses.

Further information

This course would work well with a mixture of A’ levels or BTEC subjects. If you wanted to go down the sports science route – then an A’ level in a science would be beneficial. If you wanted to go into sports management, then a level 3 business course would be more relevant. For teaching opportunities, subjects such as sociology or psychology could help.
