BTEC Level 3 Sport at Sandringham School
The course is the natural progression for students who have studied the BTEC level 2 Sport course or GCSE PE. Students need to have a real interest in sport, fitness, coaching and health. For those students considering a career within the sporting industry this would be an advisable course because the course can lead directly into work. There will be a mixture of practical and theory lessons in each unit. Also there are opportunities for students to visit areas within the sporting industry and perhaps even work within one for a period of time. Students will need to be organised and able to work within a timeframe that enables them to meet deadlines.
The BTEC Level 3 National Diploma is studied over 2 years (10 hours a week) and equates to 2 A Level choices.
100% coursework – 12 units.
Units that are studied will include:
- Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport
- The Physiology of fitness
- Assessing risk in sport
- Sports coaching
- Fitness testing for sport and exercise
- Practical team sport / Practical individual sport
- Fitness training and programming
- Psychology for sport
Throughout each unit students are set a number of mini assignments that are assessed constantly. Each assignment counts towards a final grading award. The style of assignment will vary from PowerPoint presentation, video, written analysis or essay style answers to verbal presentations. Students will need to be well organised, able to work independently and have good time management skills in order to succeed. The ability to stay on top of coursework is vital. A good understanding of the English language and ICT skills will be a huge advantage.
To access this course you need to have studied either GCSE PE and achieved a C grade or gained a Merit award in the BTEC level 2 course. Due to there being 100% coursework it is also insisted upon that the student has achieved a C grade in English.
