SPORT AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION GCE AS LEVEL (AQA) at Durham Johnston Comprehensive School

Course description

The course builds upon the student experience from GCSE to enhance knowledge and increase understanding of the factors that affect performance and participation in PE. The qualification looks to equip students with skills and knowledge required for higher education or the world of work. Students will have the opportunity to experience and develop an interest in a variety of roles in sport such as performer, official and/or leader/coach at AS then be able to specialise in one role at A2. The content of the course will address current contemporary issues. Topics will include the impact of the use of ergogenic aids, technology and increasing commercialisation of sport.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses such as Science or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Physical Education, which could lead onto higher education in areas of Sport Studies, Recreation, Exercise and Science or more general higher education courses. With further training you could go into a job related to Physical Education such as a Physiotherapist, Teacher or Exercise and Fitness Trainer. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the Sporting and Health Sectors.
