Health and Social Care (Care Pathway) - Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma at Middlesbrough College

Course description

This Level 3 Diploma course prepares you for a career in the Health and Social Care sector and depending on whether you enrol on the Diploma or the Extended Diploma you will study twelve or eighteen units. You will complete work placement which will give you an essential insight into this sector.

Course content

This Level 3 Diploma course prepares you for a career in the Health and Social Care sector and depending on whether you enrol on the Diploma or the Extended Diploma you will study some of the following units. These will include: Effective Communication in Health and Social Care Equality, Diversity and Rights Health, Safety and Security Development through the Life Stages Anatomy and Physiology Personal and Professional Development You will also study sociological and psychological perspectives, dementia care and caring for children and young people. Further specialist units allow for a more in-depth understanding to social care and if you have not achieved GCSE Maths or English at Grade C you will continue to study these at Level 2.

Entry requirements

Diploma: Overall Level 2 Qualification in a relevant discipline, or 4 GCSE’s grades A - C including Maths or English (or equivalent e.g. Level 2 Functional Skills) Extended Diploma: 4 GCSE’s grades A - C including maths and English. All applicants will require an interview and provide satisfactory references & DBS Check "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."

Assessment

This course is assessed through assignments which are graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction. There is also an element of practical assessments including work place assessment.

During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for University we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance. Students can progress on to University degree programmes and Foundation degrees including: working with children and young people, adult social care, social work, nursing, psychology and criminology. Should you want to go directly into employment you will have an A Level equivalent qualification which employers will welcome.
