Course description

This course is a vocational or work related GCSE. It aims to: Increase pupils? knowledge and understanding of the health and social care and early year?s sectors through the investigation and evaluation of a range of services and organisations. Encourage pupils to recognise the importance of the stages of development of an individual and their relationships. Develop pupils? awareness of the knowledge and skills needed for employment in health and social care sectors. Promote a critical and analytical approach to problem solving within the vocational context. Develop pupils? awareness of the influences on an individual?s health and well being. The course includes three units: Unit 1:A report of an investigation into one provider of Health, Social Care and Early Years Provision Unit 2: Promoting Health and Well Being. A plan for improving or maintaining the physical health of one individual. Unit 3: Understanding Personal Development and Relationships. Units 1 and 2 are assessed internally through the production of a portfolio of work. Unit 3 is assessed externally through an examination. The course involves pupils undertaking work related visits, interviewing professionals in Health and Social Care, use of the internet and secondary research. It also allows pupils to develop their key skills in numeracy, literacy and computing.
