Fine Art A Level at Bridgwater College

Course description

This is a chance to extend your skills using a wide range of materials from drawing to sculpture. Artists are researched in-depth to ensure that your art work is knowledgeable and lively. This subject is for those wishing to follow a broad based Art course at a higher level.

You need to be enthusiastic about drawings, experimenting with materials and researching artists' work. It is essential that you are highly motivated to consistently work on your projects. It is not recommended that you study this subject with more than one other art related subject.

Course content

Components of the course include:

  • Drawing
  • Print Making
  • Painting
  • Sculpture 
  • Alternative Media: mixed media, installation, assemblage, video and performance art
  • Theoretical, Historical and Contextual Studies in Art & Design

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs in the A* – C range, including Maths and English at grade C or above.

A sample of your creative work will need to be seen at interview.

Future opportunities

Many progress to Foundation Diploma to refine their portfolio before embarking on courses at university. Most students eventually progress into higher education courses such as Interior Design, Illustration, Fine Art, Education, Applied Arts or Art History.
