Health and Social Care Level 1 BTEC Diploma at Isle of Wight College

Course description

The Level 1 Diploma has been developed to give learners the opportunity to:

  • Engage in learning which is relevant to them and will provide opportunities to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life
  • Progress to employment
  • Progress to related general and/or vocational qualification
  • Achieve a Functional Skills in English or Maths
  • Improve a D Grade GCSE in English or Maths
  • Achieve a Level 1 “Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care” qualification as well as the Level 1 Diploma in Health and Social Care

Course content

  • Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care
  • Intermediate Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care
  • A Level 1 or 2 course in other sectors
  • A GCSE Level 2 Certificate in Employability Skills

Entry requirements

The essential entry requirements for this course are:

  • Four GCSEs at grades E or above, to include Maths and English at Entry Level 3 or above
  • An interview which involves a presentation by staff, and a 1:1 interview with a member of the health & social care team.
  • Two appropriate references, a police record check and a demonstration of commitment to work experience in a caring capacity.

In addition to these essential requirements you need to be able to demonstrate a good attendance record, evidence of recent academic study, good communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work with others, a commitment to or an interest in a career in health & social care and a positive attitude.

Assessment

You will achieve 37 credits on completion of a number of coursework assignments.
