Mathematics A level at Sacred Heart of Mary Girls' School
Advanced level Mathematics is highly recognised by employers and those in further education. The course is very demanding and students must be prepared for teacher-led lessons as well as a lot of independent study outside of lessons. Full attendance to lessons is expected, where possible. It is also necessary for students who experience difficulty with the work to seek extra help before the next lesson.
AS level: units C1, C2 and S1:
C1: Algebra & functions; coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane; sequences & series; differentiation; integration.
C2: Algebra & functions; coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane; sequences & series; trigonometry; differentiation; integration.
S1: Mathematical models in probability and statistics; representation and summary of data; probability; correlation and regression; discrete random variables; discrete distributions; the Normal distribution.
A2: units C3, C4 and S2:
C3: Algebra & functions; trigonometry; exponentials & logarithms; differentiation; numerical methods.
C4: Algebra & functions; coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane; sequences & series; differentiation; integration; vectors.
S2: The Binomial and Poisson distributions; continuous random variables; continuous distributions; samples; hypothesis tests.
