Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator): Level 3 NCFE CACHE Certificate/Diploma at NESCOT

Course description

In this course you will complete your full training in the care and development of children up to the age of 8.

Course content

You will need enthusiasm, commitment and be able to demonstrate real interest and concern for the care of children. You will spend three days in college and two days on work experience every week in three different settings across the two years of the course. You will study the early learning curriculum, anti-discriminatory practice, preparation for employment and complete observation and assessment work with young children. As part of the course you will also undertake a cookery qualification and a paediatric First Aid certificate.

Following successful completion of the Year One certificate, you can progress to the second year diploma (Early Years Educator) in order to be a qualified Early Years practitioner. 
You will study subjects including:

  • Development from conception to age 16 years 
  • Supporting children
  • Keeping children safe
  • The principles underpinning the role of the practitioner working with children. 
  • Promoting a healthy environment for children
  • Play and learning in children's education
  • Caring for children
  • Development of professional skills within children's education
  • 800 hours work experience

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at C or above, including English and Maths, or Level 2 Diploma at Merit with GCSE English and Maths at C or above. We will also require a satisfactory reference from your school. Please note, all applicants will be asked to apply for an Enhanced DBS check before starting the course.

Future opportunities

This course enables students to either go on to further study at university or directly into employment. Career opportunities are exciting and include, nursery nurse in a primary school, special needs school, special care baby unit, paediatric hospital ward, day nursery, qualified nanny (UK or abroad), or a holiday company childcare representative.

      Nescot is located just off the A240 (Reigate Road), close to the junction with the A24 (Ewell Bypass).  The College is just five miles inside the M25 (Junction 9).
      There is a large, free car park for use by students and visitors.

      By Rail:
      Nescot is served by two mainline railway stations.
      Ewell East (Southern Railway)
      Ewell East is a two-minute walk from the College from a public footpath leading off Platform 2.  Trains run every half-hour from London Victoria.
      Ewell West (South West Trains)
      Ewell West, which is 15 minutes walk from the College, is on the main line from London Waterloo.
