IT Applications for Business Level 1 Diploma at Coleg y Cymoedd

Course description

This course is suitable for learners who are interested in developing new or existing skills which are needed for employment in a range of IT and administrative careers; providing the opportunity for you to develop skills and manage a range of IT software packages.

This is a course, which starts from the basics and develops through to more complex aspects of Microsoft application-based software. It is for anyone who is interested in gaining practical software application skills and experience. All learning is undertaken within our modern and well-equipped IT classrooms and will take place within a supportive and friendly environment. Course content

Level 1 City and Guilds Diploma in IT Applications for Business, Level 1 Award in Work Skills and Welsh Baccalaureate Foundation along with Essential Skills in Communication and Application of Number.

Within your Level 1 Diploma in IT Applications for Business qualification you may study units in: Improving Productivity Using IT, Email, Web design, Desktop Publishing, IT Software Fundamentals, Email, Design Software, Internet, IT Communications Software, Multi Media, Drawing and Planning Software, Database, Spreadsheets, Presentation Graphics and Word Processing.

You will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate where you will explore a wide range of areas including Wales, Europe and the World, Work-related Education, Personal and Social Education and Entrepreneurship.

Entry requirements

3 GCSEs at grades A*- E including English and Maths or successful completion of an Entry 3 Foundation qualification.

You will be invited to attend an interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.

Assessment

As part of the Level 1 Diploma you will be assessed by completing set assignments. You will be expected to work to deadlines and maintain your course files/portfolios to the required standards. The Welsh Baccalaureate and Essential Skills assessments are via portfolio evidence and a project.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the course you may be eligible to progress to a Level 2 course such as Level 2 Diploma in IT Applications for Business, NVQ Diploma in Business Administration or a BTEC Diploma in Business or Information Technology.
