Chemistry A Level at Teignmouth Community School

Course description

The aim of this course is to encourage candidates to:
- develop their interest in and enthusiasm for chemistry, including developing an interest in further study and careers in chemistry
- appreciate how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society
- develop and demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of How Science Works
- develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of chemistry and how they relate to each other.

Course content

Under the new process, students will study six modules in total with 100% being examined and an element of practical assessment.

Entry requirements

Anyone gaining grade B or above in both Core & Additional Science GCSEs or grade B in Chemistry is eligible for the course. It is important to have 5 GCSEs at grade C (or equivalent) or above (including Mathematics & English Language at level 5).

Future opportunities

Chemistry A level is a subject that would be suitable for any student who is studying other courses in Biology A Level, Physics A Level and Maths A Level. It is particularly useful for students who intend to study medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmaceuticals, & science/biomedical degrees.
