Science - BTEC Extended Diploma in Biomedical Science level 3 at Kirklees College, Huddersfield Centre

Course description

This course focuses on the practical application of biological sciences alongside complimentary units in chemistry and medical science.

Course content

The course includes:

  • working in the science industry,
  • biochemistry,
  • biomedical sciences,
  • human physiology,
  • microbiological techniques,
  • genetics and genetic engineering,
  • diseases and infection,
  • clinical psychology,
  • scientific practical techniques,
  • medical physics techniques.
AS level Biology or Chemistry is available in the
2nd year of the programme to those students
who have met their targets in the 1st year.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs with the following grades: English at grade 4 and maths at grade 3 or above, and 3 other GCSEs grade 4 or above including a science subject.


Assessment includes a range of assessment types and styles suited to vocational qualifications in the sector.
There are three main forms of assessment: external, internal and synoptic.

Future opportunities

A degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) course in science and technology.

Employment in a scientific and technical area, for example hospital laboratories and research and development.
