Exploring the Caring Sectors (QCF) BTEC Level 1 Certificate / Diploma at Middlesbrough College

Course description

The course aims to provide a program of study related to the caring sectors that is suited to learners who have a general interest in care and an aptitude to progress to further study. It aims to broaden and deepen learners’ understanding of careers in healthcare, social care and children’s services. The course gives learners the potential opportunity to progress to employment, with further training, in a range of job roles in the caring sectors.

Course content

A wide range of subjects are taught in innovate and practical ways utilising the state of the art NHS mock ward, Childcare Suite and Physiology Lab Units include • Introduction to the Caring Sectors • Health and Social Care Needs • Personal Care in Health and Social Care • Communication with Adults and Children in Health and Social Care • Promoting Healthy Eating in Care • Creative and Leisure Activities for Adults in Health and Social Care • Learning Experiences for Young Children • Keeping Children Safe • Working in a Team • English • Maths They are delivered by specialised staff who have experience of working in the caring sectors so can provided first hand information and insight into employment.

Entry requirements

No formal requirements. 2 Satisfactory references, School or education report if possible interview and initial assessments. You will undertake and require a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure Application "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."

Assessment

There are a range of assignments for each unit. Assessed as pass or fail. You will be required to complete an English and Maths qualification and exam.

During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for University we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.
