What roles could I be doing for the IT User Skills Apprenticeship?

As a Data Administrator, you would be entering and editing data, using software such as Customer Relationship Management; Accounts; Payroll and Stock control systems. You would also be producing routine reports from the data held. You could alternatively be employed in a role in Website Management, planning and contributing to designing websites; creating multimedia content for websites; and working with IT professionals to build new sites.

You can gain a qualification in IT User Skills to further your career or even just obtain a certificate for what you currently do without the need for going to college or university. You can complete the qualification at work with the support of a highly qualified training advisor and an online portfolio.

An Apprenticeship in IT User Skills is an internationally recognised qualification that provides the essential foundation and development of skills.

The course of the qualifications enables individuals to advance within their role working in community learning and development, further education, higher education, teaching support, libraries, archives and information services, or work-based learning and development.

IT User Skills Apprenticeships with Babington Business College

You will work towards the nationally recognised IT User Skills qualification. The IT User Skills apprenticeships are usually done over a 15-18 month period. However, the length of time taken will depend on the course, the ability of the individual apprentice and the employer’s requirements.

Course content

IT User Skills Apprenticeship - Level 2 & 3 allows an individual to learn and gain a nationally recognised qualification. National Vocational Qualifications are designed to meet the standards set by industry in occupational areas. They are designed to cover various aspects of a job or area of work, assessing skills actually used in the workplace.

The Technical Certificate develops understanding and skills which can be adapted to a work setting. Functional Skills are the skills which are most commonly needed to succeed in a range of activities, learning to use and adapt communication and number skills in a range of settings and contexts. Personal Learning and Thinking Skills are assessed throughout the programme.

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications are required but individuals should be enthusiastic, motivated, reliable and prepared to work hard. Good communication skills are essential and it is important to be understanding and show respect for others.


Individuals will be assessed by observation in the workplace, by completing a portfolio of evidence or E-Portfolio and by completing a variety of externally marked assessments. Support is offered in the workplace.
